In our initial item, we noted how THIRTY’s basic plot synopsis (about a soldier named Andy returning home from combat, and bringing terror with him) seemed awfully similar to a haunting mid-‘70s wartime thriller. Turns out there’s a reason for that: “ZERO DARK THIRTY is a ‘reimagining’ of Bob Clark’s DEATHDREAM [pictured],” Susco tells Fango. “Johnny and I met when his production company was working on the project. After a while, we struck out on our own, acquiring the rights and developing the script ourselves.” This presumably eliminates Eli Roth’s proposed DEATHDREAM remake, which was announced months after the release of CABIN FEVER as a Stalberg-produced project (see item here).
