Some Zombie Film & Fiction
"What if zombies didn't eat brains? How would people deal with their long-deceased relatives, lovers, friends, and enemies? And how would the dead cope with the realization that life really had gone on without them?"
Severed
A good while back a friendly film-programmer type dropped me a note and told me to be on the lookout for Carl Bessai's Severed. Well, okay, I thought, but it seemed like a bit of a strange instruction since Bessai is best known in these parts for making quiet little family dramas. They're good family dramas to be sure - the man did get Ian McKellan to come to Canada and make Emile for pocket change on the strength of his writing - but what would Carl Bessai be doing of interest to a site like Twitch?Answer: Zombies.
Shot on location in the forests of British Columbia Severed is the story of a logging experiment gone wrong ... genetically altered tree hormones get into the human population with horrific results. The film just played at Screamfest in LA, so if anybody caught it we'd love to hear what you thought ...
Now, it looked as though we were going to have an exclusive on this but it appears that in the lag between the producers dropping the trailer DVD in the mail to me and it actually arriving they went and made the trailer available in streaming and greatly ad-molested form over on IFilm. But if you want to see the thing without being swamped by ads and you want to be able to download it to hold close to your breast while it whispers sweet nothings in your ear, we've got you covered ...
See what happens when you ignore the NAFTA rules governing the softwood lumber trade, Mr. Bush? Hordes of the undead come to eat your brains! Get the axe!
