Question #4

This question comes courtesy of Vapiai Caply at ZAGG MySpace--admit it, you've often wondered about this very thing.

Do zombies go to the bathroom, or do they just sort of wander around letting themselves go? Can they go to the bathroom? What's your two cents on this particular aspect of zombie physiology?

i love that you asked a question about zombies pooping!

i never thought zombies actually ingested anything, they just go through the motions of chewing flesh and so forth because it's instinct, their bodies don't actually keep running on it and don't get any energy, and don't process the 'food'. isn't the brain kind of driving the body, they have no heartbeat so i assume swallowing and digesting don't work either.

i'll ask my wife. she works in a biology lab and may have a more informed opinion.

I suppose it depends on the kind of zombie you're discussing. One would assume that the traditional Voudoun zombie, which is a living human stripped of its psyche would continue to consume food and eliminate as a normal human, albeit one more along the lines of an infant or a person in a vegetative state, due to the lack of concious thought.

The Hollywood concept of the zombie as animated dead would probably not consume nor eliminate, as all living functions would have ceased upon the moment of death. The any flesh actually consumed would simply sit in what is left of the GI tract and decay, much as the flesh of the corpse will eventually decay.

(and to answer any thoughts...yes, I think too much about these things - it's my job)
